Why Do You Want to Work Here?

TL;DR: This question tests whether you've actually researched the company or you're sending the same generic answer to every interview.

What the interviewer is really asking

They want to know you understand what the company does, why it matters, and how your specific background fits into that picture — not just that you want a job.

A structure that works

Reference something specific about the company (a product, a recent initiative, their approach to the market), connect it to your own experience or values, and tie it to what you want to do next in your career.

What to avoid

  • Generic answers about "growth opportunities" or "great culture" that could apply to any employer
  • Talking only about what you'll get, with nothing about what you bring
  • Reciting the company's mission statement without connecting it to anything personal
