How to Write a Cover Letter That Gets Read

TL;DR: Most cover letters restate the resume. A good one adds context the resume can't — the why behind your application.

Open with something specific

Skip "I am writing to apply for..." and open with a specific reason you're drawn to this role or company.

Add context, don't repeat

Use the space to explain a transition, connect dots between past roles, or tell a brief story that a resume bullet can't capture.

Keep it to half a page

Hiring managers skim. A tight, specific half-page beats a full page of generic enthusiasm.
