How to Prepare for a Video Interview

TL;DR: Small technical and environmental details matter more on video than most candidates expect.

Test your setup beforehand

Check your camera angle, lighting, and audio at least 15 minutes before the call — not as the interviewer is joining.

Look at the camera, not the screen

Looking at the person's face on your screen instead of the camera lens can make eye contact feel off on the other end — glance at the camera periodically, especially when making key points.

Have a backup plan

Know your phone number as a backup and have the meeting link easily accessible in case the video connection drops.
