How to Ask for Feedback After a Rejection
TL;DR: Most companies won't give detailed feedback for legal reasons, but it's still worth a brief, professional ask.
Keep the request short
Thank them for their time, and ask one specific question: "If you're able to share, I'd appreciate any feedback on how I could strengthen my candidacy for similar roles in the future."
Don't push if they decline
Many companies have policies against giving feedback. If they don't respond or decline, don't press further — just move on.
What to do if they do respond
Take the feedback at face value rather than debating it. Even vague feedback ("we went with someone with more direct industry experience") is useful signal about how to position yourself for the next opportunity.
