Be specific about your constraints

If you're open to relocating, say so and mention any timing or location preferences. If you're not, say so clearly rather than leaving it ambiguous and wasting everyone's time.

Why employers ask this early

Relocation often involves real cost and lead time on the employer's side — visa sponsorship, moving stipends, start-date flexibility. They're trying to rule out a mismatch before investing more time in the process, not testing your loyalty.

If you're conditionally open

It's fine to say something like, "I'd consider it for the right role and package, but I'd want to understand relocation support before going further." That's honest without shutting the door prematurely.

What to avoid

Saying yes just to stay in the running, then backing out later in the process. It wastes your time and the employer's, and it can burn a relationship you might want again down the line.
