How to Write an Interview Follow-Up Email

TL;DR: A good follow-up is short, specific, and sent within 24 hours — not a generic thank-you.

Reference something specific

Mention a specific point from the conversation, not just "thank you for your time," to show you were genuinely engaged.

Keep it brief

Three to four sentences is enough — thank them, reference a detail, and reaffirm your interest.

If you forgot to mention something in the interview

A follow-up email is a reasonable place to briefly add one relevant point you didn't get to raise — just keep it to one addition, not a second interview in writing.
