How to Message a Recruiter on LinkedIn (With Template)

TL;DR: Keep it short, specific, and easy to act on.

A simple template

"Hi [Name], I saw you recruit for [function/industry] roles at [Company]. I'm a [your title] with experience in [specific relevant skill], currently exploring opportunities in [target area]. Would you be open to a quick chat, or could you point me toward the right person on your team?"

Personalize the opening line

Reference something specific — a role they recently posted, a mutual connection, or a specific team — rather than sending the exact same template to dozens of recruiters, which is easy for them to spot.

Follow up once, then move on

If you don't hear back within a week, one polite follow-up is reasonable. Beyond that, redirect your energy elsewhere rather than repeatedly messaging.
