System Administrator – EHR & Federal Infrastructure (Remote)
RESPEC is seeking a highly experienced System Administrator to support a federal client. This critical role involves maintaining and optimizing mission-critical Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and the supporting infrastructure within a highly regulated, security-first environment.
This is a Full-time, Paid, Remote position, though occasional client travel may be required. While the job is remote-first, it is posted for Albuquerque, NM.
Core Responsibilities: EHR Systems and Data Center Operations
This administrator will serve as a subject matter expert, handling complex problems independently and mentoring junior staff, with a strong focus on compliance and enterprise virtualization.
- OS & Enterprise Management: Administer Microsoft and Linux operating systems and Microsoft enterprise management products.
- EHR Infrastructure: Plan, install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain Windows and cloud infrastructure for EHR systems and applications. Experience with federal EHR platforms (e.g., IHS RPMS, VA VistA, DoD CHCS) is preferred.
- Virtualization & Data Center: Administer and maintain VMware environments. Manage backup and recovery operations for the Data Operations Center (DOC).
- Security & Compliance: Enforce security programs, policies, and procedures to protect system confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Familiarity with HIPAA, FISMA, and NIST 800-53 standards is essential.
- Optimization & Automation: Perform system patching, performance tuning, upgrades, and resource optimization. Develop automation and scripts using PowerShell, Visual Basic, .NET, C#, or similar languages.
- Physical Security: Implement and maintain physical security controls and tools for enterprise data centers. Utilize DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools and enterprise monitoring systems.
- Support & Mentorship: Provide Tier II/III technical support and serve as a subject matter expert, mentoring lower-tier staff.
Required Experience and Skills
The role requires extensive experience in IT, specifically within secure, government-adjacent data center environments.
- Experience (Minimum): 5+ years of IT experience, including 3+ years supporting server/data center environments.
- Federal Requirement: Experience supporting federal government IT systems; eligibility for federal suitability clearance.
- Core Skills:
- Expertise in Windows and Linux server administration and Microsoft enterprise management tools.
- Proficiency in VMware administration and virtualization best practices.
- Hands-on experience with backup/recovery, patch management, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Strong background in security and compliance in federal environments.
- Ability to produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
- Education: Associate degree, technical institute certificate, or equivalent experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
