Senior Support Engineer – Elastic (Distributed / Remote US)
Elastic, the company behind the Elasticsearch AI Platform, provides industry-leading solutions for search, observability, and security. This Senior Support Engineer role is a high-level technical position within a globally distributed team. You will provide expert-level service to Fortune 500 companies, troubleshooting the “Elastic Stack” (ELK) across complex, cloud-native environments. The role requires a “generalist-expert” mindset, spanning deep Linux internals, JVM performance, and modern container orchestration.
- Location: Remote (AZ, CA, CO, NM, OR, UT, WA)
- Experience: 5+ years in technical support or engineering.
- Core Tech: Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana (Elastic Stack), Java/JVM, Linux, Kubernetes.
- Cloud: AWS, GCP, Azure, Docker, SaaS.
Distributed Systems & Container Orchestration
You will troubleshoot Elastic deployments running on Kubernetes and Docker across all major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure). Because Elastic is a distributed search engine, you must understand how data is sharded, replicated, and balanced across clusters. You will be responsible for creating complex lab environments to replicate customer-specific issues in containerized architectures.
Java/JVM & System Internals
Since Elasticsearch is built on Java, you must have an advanced understanding of the JVM (Java Virtual Machine). You will diagnose performance bottlenecks related to heap memory, garbage collection, and thread pool execution. This is combined with deep Linux/Unix administration, where you will analyze system logs, kernel parameters, and storage I/O to ensure the stack is running at peak efficiency.
Security & Network Integration
You will manage complex networking and identity integrations. This includes troubleshooting SSO (SAML, Active Directory, LDAP), configuring SSL/TLS for secure data transport, and managing the interaction between the Elastic Stack and web technologies like NGINX, Apache, and Load Balancers. You’ll also use your knowledge of APIs and REST calls to debug integration points between customer applications and Elastic search endpoints.
Summary: You are a technical leader within the Elastic community. By bridging the gap between deep infrastructure engineering and customer-centric support, you ensure that organizations can find real-time answers at scale. You work directly with core developers to resolve the most challenging escalations in the search and AI market.
