Senior Linux System Administrator – (100% Remote)
This role is for a seasoned expert in enterprise Linux environments, specifically focused on Red Hat (RHEL) and AWS cloud integrations. Supporting Federal Government operations, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of mission-critical, high-availability systems. The position requires a deep technical understanding of legacy (RHEL 6/7) and modern systems, emphasizing security patching, identity management, and automation through Ansible.
- Salary Range: $110,000 – $120,000 USD
- Location: 100% Remote (US-based)
- Experience: 5+ years (or 13+ years in lieu of a degree)
- Core Tech: Red Hat Linux, AWS, Ansible, LDAP/Centrify, Apache/Tomcat.
- Specialty: Federal Security Posture, High-Availability (Pacemaker), and Patching.
Red Hat Enterprise Management & High Availability
You will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (6 and 7). This involves maintaining the core OS and high-availability stacks using Pacemaker to ensure zero-downtime for core business systems. You will manage enterprise services like Satellite Server for system orchestration and Centrify/LDAP for identity management, ensuring that all server-side security certificates remain compliant with strict cyber security policies.
Automation & Security Patching
A primary focus of this role is maintaining the security posture of Linux assets. You will develop and document strategies for patch management and support package releases. Using Ansible, you will write playbooks to automate these complex tasks, ensuring that weekly maintenance windows (often off-hours) are executed efficiently. You will also be responsible for scripting in Python, Bash, and Perl to optimize system performance and thresholds.
Networking & Database Support
You must have a thorough understanding of server protocols including NTP, SMTP, and SFTP, as well as complex email routing. The role also requires supporting Oracle database environments, which involves setting up and troubleshooting shared storage and ensuring the underlying Linux environment is tuned for database performance. You will act as an escalation point for “break-fix” incidents, providing immediate response to ensure business continuity.
Summary: You are the guardian of enterprise Linux stability. By mastering Red Hat internals, Ansible automation, and Federal security protocols, you ensure that high-volume, mission-critical systems remain performant and secure against evolving cyber threats.
