A new opportunity is available for a Senior Frontend Software Engineer to join the Square International Web & Server team. This is a full-time role, listed as remote but based in London, UK. Square, a major player in commerce and financial services, is looking for an engineer passionate about building exceptional product experiences for its non-US markets. This team is focused on delivering locally remarkable features across Square’s entire product ecosystem for international sellers.

The Role and Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, you will be part of a team driving key international product launches, focusing on adapting and enhancing Square’s platform for sellers worldwide. Recent projects have included launching new pricing models, building global payment workflows, enhancing tax automation, and improving seller onboarding in various non-US markets.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Feature Development: Partnering with Web, Platform, and Mobile engineers to build innovative new features tailored for international sellers.
• Product Collaboration: Working closely with product managers and designers to define the seller experience and product scope, bridging the gap between design and implementation.
• Full-Cycle Delivery: Bringing high proficiency in frontend and middle-tier development, taking full responsibility for the successful delivery of projects, including planning, risk management, development, testing, rollout, and maintenance.
• Engineering Excellence: Holding yourself and your team to the highest standard of engineering quality, prioritizing quality over quantity in all delivered work.

Required Qualifications and Technology Stack

Square is looking for a highly experienced engineer with a passion for building impactful products that merchants rely on daily.

• Experience: 8+ years of industry experience is required, preferably with a B.S. or equivalent degree.
• Core Proficiency: Proficiency in React, JavaScript/Typescript, Ruby, or Java development using standard tools and frameworks.
• Product Focus: A strong passion for building products at all levels, from architectural decisions to the individual pixels and the overall product experience.
• Technologies Used (and Taught):
  • Languages/Frameworks: JavaScript/Typescript, Ruby, Java, Next.js, and React.
  • Architecture/Database: HTTP, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, MySQL, and Event-driven architecture.
