HP-UX System Administrator / Environment Specialist
An opportunity is available for an experienced and dedicated HP-UX Environment Specialist / System Administrator to join an IT team. This specialized role is focused entirely on the management, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s HP-UX OS and related hardware, ensuring high availability and performance.
This is a full-time, remote position.
Role Summary and HP-UX Optimization Mandate
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legacy system administration, specializing in HP-UX, with a proactive approach to system integrity, security, and performance. This is a technical, hands-on role with strong security and documentation requirements.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- System Management & Maintenance: Administer and manage HP-UX servers and related hardware. Perform regular system updates, patches, and security enhancements.
- Performance & Optimization: Monitor system performance and resource utilization. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and implement best practices for system optimization.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure the security of the HP-UX environment by implementing and maintaining security policies. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues. Provide timely support for system-related incidents, collaborating with other IT teams as needed.
- Data Integrity: Ensure system integrity through regular backups and recovery procedures.
- Documentation & Guidance: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes. Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members.
- On-Call: Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Required Knowledge and Skills
The successful candidate must possess deep, specialized knowledge of HP-UX administration, robust troubleshooting skills, and excellent documentation capabilities.
- Core Expertise: Extensive experience with HP-UX system administration.
- Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
- Hardware: Familiarity with server hardware and networking concepts.
