An opportunity has emerged in our network for a DevSecOps Engineer at Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI), a 100% employee-owned engineering services company supporting critical national defense and security programs. This role is focused on aiding in the solutioning and sustainment of a massive cloud-based software factory designed to handle up to several thousand users.

This position is Remote (with potential for hybrid/onsite in Dayton, OH, Alexandria, VA, or Huntsville, AL), requires a DoD Secret Security Clearance, and offers a strong benefits package including an ESOP, 6% 401k match with immediate vesting, and semi-annual bonuses. The base pay range in California and Colorado is $130,000 to $170,000 per year.


Key Responsibilities and DevSecOps Leadership

The DevSecOps Engineer will be critical in driving the modernization, security, and continuous delivery of the software factory, championing modern DoD initiatives.

  • Software Factory Architecture & Security: Aid in designing the system architecture and be responsible for creating and maintaining standards and documentation for software factory development and sustainment. Ensure the software factory’s security posture meets all requirements.
  • DevSecOps & Agile Champion: Embrace and champion Agile development processes and adopt modern DevSecOps workflows and practices. Provide technical guidance on best practices, including GitOps and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Implementation & Compliance: Support and contribute to the implementation, configuration, compliance, security, operations, and maintenance of the entire software factory technology stack. Collaborate with Information Assurance/Cybersecurity SMEs to ensure security controls are met.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code for the AWS cloud services that house the software factory.
  • CI/CD & Reliability: Oversee and manage CI/CD activities for the infrastructure and tooling, and manage the site reliability of the software factory.

Required Experience and Technical Skills

This role requires a blend of development, security, and operations experience, specifically within the defense and cloud domains, with a strong understanding of the DoD DevSecOps reference architecture.

  • Experience: 5-8 years of combined experience working as a Network, Cloud, Security, Software, DevOps, DevSecOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Clearance & Education:
    • Must have or be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Core Tooling Expertise: Experience with a wide range of technologies, including Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, Istio, ArgoCD, GitLab, GitLab CI, Nexus, NeuVector, Grafana, SonarQube, Coder, Packer, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Cloud & Programming: Experience with AWS cloud services (networking, storage, compute). Experience with common modern programming languages (Python, Go, C++, Java, etc.).
  • Proficiency: Proficiency with implementing and practicing GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps. Proficiency with maintaining the lifecycle of Kubernetes clusters and creating enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
  • OS: Proficiency in Linux and Windows Operating Systems.
