DevOps Engineer
An opportunity has emerged in our network for a DevOps Engineer at Counterpart, a modern management and professional liability insurance platform leveraging advanced technology to measure and mitigate risk. This is a high-impact, fully remote position in the United States, where the engineer will be a prolific individual contributor, architecting the underlying infrastructure and dynamic data services for the core insurance platforms.
The estimated pay range for this role is $145,000–$165,000 USD annually, and the company operates as a fully distributed team with strong values centered on wellness, honesty, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities and Platform Ownership
This engineer will take ownership of infrastructure orchestration, production readiness, and security across the company’s core systems, which are heavily based on Python and AWS.
- System Architecture: Evolve the underlying infrastructure architecture to ensure scalability, fault tolerance, and cost efficiency for core insurance platforms, making thoughtful trade-offs to meet business and technical goals.
- Infrastructure Orchestration: Build, manage, and optimize infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Kubernetes (EKS), and core AWS services. Automate provisioning, scaling, and deployment processes to support rapid feature delivery.
- Production Readiness: Develop and maintain comprehensive observability solutions (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting) using tools like Mezmo and Sentry to ensure high uptime. Own and improve CI/CD pipelines (using GitHub Actions and others).
- Platform Security: Implement and maintain best practices for infrastructure security, including IAM, network segmentation, vulnerability scanning, and compliance monitoring, partnering closely with the security team.
- On-Call & Troubleshooting: Participate in on-call responsibilities for the uptime and performance of systems and services.
Required Experience and Technical Skills
The ideal candidate has a passion for developer enablement and a strong background in AWS, Kubernetes, and Python development.
- Cloud Experience: 4+ years of experience with AWS services, including EKS, RDS (PostgreSQL), Lambda, and ElastiCache Redis.
- Orchestration & IaC: 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes and experience with Terraform and Helm.
- Programming: 3+ years of experience with Python.
- Database: 2+ years of experience with relational databases.
- General Skills: Fluency in automation, comfort digging into application and service code (Python/TypeScript), and effective communication/documentation skills.
- Environment: Experience working on a remote team.
