- Experience Required: 5+ years of experience in data science, statistical modeling, or AI/ML projects.
- Clearance: Must be able to pass a Federal background screening and obtain/maintain government clearance and customer approval.
- Focus: Developing predictive models, simulations, and decision-theory frameworks using Python, and ensuring models comply with federal AI governance requirements.
- Domain Preference: Previous experience supporting HUD OCIO and familiarity with federal datasets preferred.
Responsibilities: Model Development and AI Governance
The Data Scientist is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of AI/ML models, from data preparation and algorithm development to deployment and governance documentation.
- AI/ML Development: Develop statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and simulations using Python. Develop predictive models, simulations, and decision-theory frameworks.
- Data Preparation: Analyze HUD datasets, implement data preprocessing, and assess data quality for AI workflows. Requires strong data processing, cleaning, transformation, and engineering capabilities.
- Model Deployment & Validation: Evaluate model performance, validate results, and iterate for improvement. Collaborate with HCD/UX and front-end teams to ensure models are operationalized effectively.
- Governance & Compliance: Support AI governance by documenting models, decisions, assumptions, and ethical safeguards. Maintain version-controlled code and reproducible workflows for HUD audit and compliance.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
The position demands deep technical proficiency in the Python data science ecosystem and expertise in managing federal-scale datasets.
- Core Experience (5+ years): Experience developing predictive models, simulations, and decision-support tools.
- Python Stack: Proficiency in Python libraries including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow/PyTorch.
- Modeling & Statistics: Expertise in Statistical modeling, simulation, and decision theory.
