A new opportunity is available for a Cloud Security Engineer for a direct-hire position with a client of MissionStaff. This role is fully remote but requires the candidate to be located within the EST (Eastern Standard Time) timezone. The Cloud Security Engineer is a critical role responsible for safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems across various cloud environments.

The engineer will act as a key partner to technical and security teams, focusing on designing, implementing, and maintaining security measures that align with best practices and regulatory requirements. This includes leading efforts to secure modern, complex systems, specifically cloud-native and AI-based systems.


Key Responsibilities

This role is centered on both proactive security design and continuous monitoring and response:

  • Security Design and Implementation: Design, implement, and maintain security controls for cloud infrastructure, applications, and AI/ML systems. This includes defining and managing access control structures, privileges, and processes.
  • Vulnerability Management: Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and remediate vulnerabilities, ensuring a strong security posture.
  • DevSecOps Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security into cloud architecture and development processes (shifting left).
  • Compliance and Reporting: Provide documentation, monitor systems for abnormalities, and report exceptions to stakeholders. The role also involves researching and recommending new security technologies and staying current with emerging threats.
  • Incident Response: Support incident response, investigations, and the implementation of security improvements following a security event.

Required Qualifications

The client is looking for a seasoned professional with deep security expertise that extends into the cloud domain.

  • Experience: 2+ years of dedicated experience in cloud security engineering and 5+ years in IT security or related areas.
  • Cloud Platform Knowledge: Strong understanding of major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their security controls.
  • Security Tools Proficiency: Proficiency with various security tools, including firewalls, WAF (Web Application Firewall), SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), log management, and monitoring systems.
  • Frameworks & Standards: Knowledge of established security frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001, PCI, and SOC.
  • Technical Skills: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field. Experience with scripting/automation tools (Python, PowerShell) is preferred.
