An opportunity is available for a Cloud Developer on the Core Platform team at Yahoo, a company committed to building beloved brands in News, Sports, and Finance. This role is central to building the industry-leading, next-generation AI-powered cloud platforms, services, and tools that support hundreds of millions of users and billions of daily pageviews.

This is a full-time, remote position in the United States.


Role Summary and AI-Powered Cloud Automation

This developer will be a key contributor to achieving developer self-sufficiency and driving DevOps ownership models by focusing on automation, standardization, and deploying containerized applications at massive scale across multiple cloud providers. The role has a strong focus on leveraging AI to enhance platform operations, security, and developer onboarding.

You Will:

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and enhance Terraform modules to standardize cloud features across the Yahoo environment.
  • Kubernetes & Deployment: Configure and automate Helm deployments for services hosted in Kubernetes.
  • AI-Driven Operations: Design and deploy AI-driven troubleshooting systems and cost optimization features across all managed Kubernetes clusters.
  • Developer Productivity: Create intelligent onboarding agents that guide developers to configure and deploy applications seamlessly. Automate setup, security, and scaling best practices through AI-driven workflows.
  • Production Reliability: Diagnose, resolve, and prevent issues in production application infrastructure using critical knowledge of Kubernetes, UNIX tools, and cloud technologies.
  • Monitoring & Documentation: Implement and maintain monitoring for complete transparency to the application and system state. Write clear and concise engineering documentation for internal users.

Required Experience and Technical Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a talented, self-driven developer with a passion for automation, deep knowledge of Kubernetes, and a desire to leverage AI to solve complex, large-scale cloud challenges.

  • Experience: 3+ years with a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Cloud Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of cloud fundamentals, including automation workflows, application deployments, monitoring, networking, and identity/access management. Experience working with AWS or GCP public cloud.
  • Kubernetes Expertise: Strong proficiency with Kubernetes (cluster management, operators, CRDs, Helm, GitOps).
  • Programming & Scripting: Expertise in any one of the scripting languages. Programming experience in Go is preferred.
  • Observability & AI: Knowledge of observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) for collecting data to feed AI models.
  • Troubleshooting: Skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks, anomalous system behavior, and determining the root cause of incidents in the cloud.
  • Preferred Knowledge: Experience working with Terraform is preferred. Knowledge of Service mesh technologies such as Istio, IP networking, DNS, load balancing, and CDNs is also preferred.
