Vox Media is seeking a Systems Administrator to join its Corporate IT team. This role is essential for maintaining system performance and security across multiple offices, ensuring the quality and stability of the organization’s IT infrastructure. The position reports directly to the Director, IT Infrastructure.
- Location: New York (US Only)
- Focus: Core server infrastructure management, virtualization, directory services, system monitoring, and enhancing IT security and quality for a media organization.
- Key Platforms: VMware, Windows Server, Linux (CentOS/RHEL), Active Directory, Okta.
What You’ll Do: Maintenance, Performance, and Security
The administrator handles the daily operational tasks that ensure the core server and network infrastructure remains available and optimized.
- Virtual & Server Management: Maintain the virtual environment across multiple offices (using VMware) and manage both Windows and Linux servers (CentOS/RHEL).
- Identity & Access: Maintain Active Directory and the organization’s single sign-on (SSO) systems, specifically with experience in Okta.
- Monitoring & Performance: Manage infrastructure monitoring tools. Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning measures.
- Support & Resilience: Perform troubleshooting and analysis of servers and associated systems. Manage system backup systems.
- Deployment & Documentation: Work with the system engineer to evaluate, build, integrate, test, and prepare systems for operational use. Perform server/service upgrades and patches. Create and update technical documentation.
Required and Preferred Skills
- Mandatory Technical Experience: Experience with Windows Server, Linux (CentOS/RHEL), Active Directory, Network Storage, and VMware. Required knowledge of server virtualization, media file storage, and basic networking.
- Identity: Proven experience with Okta (single sign-on).
- Bonus Points:
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PowerShell.
- Experience with Google Cloud or AWS.
- Relevant certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Okta) or a Bachelor’s degree in IT.
