The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking an IT System Administration – Journey professional to provide technical support and manage IT systems across multiple, diverse networks at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC). This position is vital to DOC’s strategic goal of improving public safety by enabling staff and incarcerated individuals to effectively use technology.
- Location: Stafford Creek Corrections Center, Aberdeen, WA
- Salary Range: $88,332 – $118,800 Annually
- Work Arrangement: Telework possible within Washington State, but regular commute to a DOC facility is required as business dictates.
- Focus: Support of multiple networks, including the Incarcerated Individual Services Network, Health Services Network (HSN), and Security Electronics Network (SEN).
Key Duties: Complex System Management and Customer Delivery
The role is highly technical, demanding expertise in server management, telephony, network infrastructure, and security protocols in a complex, multi-user environment.
- Diverse Network Support: Provide technical support for IT Systems (servers, building automation, PBX, and networks) for both staff and incarcerated individuals across multiple networks.
- Server and Data Management: Manage server availability, functionality, and efficiency by auditing, troubleshooting, and resolving server errors. Develop and plan the configuration of server backup systems, managing storage and data recovery procedures.
- Telephony & Mobile: Manage and administrate the PBX phone and AAMS (Avaya Aura Messaging Systems). Deploy and provide technical support for telephones, mobile phones, and other mobile connectivity hardware.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure security protocols are followed per DOC Policies. Collaborate with IT Security to determine actions for system breaches (malware, virus, or policy violation).
- Customer Service & Projects: Provide professional-level customer support to staff, vendors, and incarcerated individuals. Provide full participation and constructive feedback for all local, regional, and statewide IT projects.
Required Qualifications: Technical Depth and Experience
Candidates must demonstrate substantial hands-on experience in server and network administration, troubleshooting, and Active Directory management.
- Experience (One of Three Paths): Requires a combination of IT-related training/education and experience, culminating in four (4) years of Information Technology experience in an enterprise environment.
- Core Technical Experience (4 Years Required in each):
- Repairing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting Network Operating Systems, software, and hardware on physical and virtual servers.
- Using server diagnostic tools in the repair of server hardware and software.
- Installing, testing, and configuring Microsoft Windows workstations.
- Creating and modifying Active Directory groups for administrative access.
- Certification (Preferred Standouts):
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate: Windows Server 2019 or Windows 10/11.
- Certified CompTIA A+.
- Soft Requirements: Must have a valid license to drive in Washington State and the ability to drive various vehicle types.
