OT Network & Systems Administrator III – SCADA & Industrial Networks (Remote)
Ulteig, through its Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department, is seeking an OT Network & Systems Administrator III. This senior-level role is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting network equipment and servers that support Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and data historization systems in the renewable power and water industries.
This is a Full-time, Remote position in the US, with occasional travel (less than 15%) to local panel shops and remote work sites.
Core Responsibilities: OT Network Design and SCADA Integration
This Administrator serves as a technical leader, managing both the network and server components within the Operational Technology (OT) environment while mentoring junior staff and supporting client engagement.
- OT Network Design: Design and make recommendations for network infrastructure. This involves:
- Creating Layer 1, 2, and 3 drawings
to depict the network. * Creating IP address spreadsheets and defining firewall rules for secure communication.
- Network Configuration & Field Support:
- Configure, test, and troubleshoot network equipment (switches, firewalls, VPNs) using secure best practices.
- Configure firewalls to allow only desired traffic (common vendors: Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto).
- Configure network switches (Cisco, SEL, Antaira).
- Server & SCADA Administration:
- Configure client servers, including Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Installation of SCADA applications (Ignition and others).
- Installation of historian databases (Microsoft SQL, MySQL, MariaDB).
- Configuration of Virtual Machines (VMs) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) or recovery solutions.
- Quality & Leadership: Take ownership of quality control, participate in QC checks and FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), and mentor less experienced engineers.
Required Experience and Industrial/OT Skills
This role demands a blend of traditional network administration skills with specialized knowledge of industrial protocols and secure control environments.
- Experience & Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field preferred, or equivalent experience combined with professional network certifications (CCNP, Palo Alto PCNA, etc.).
- Network Expertise: Solid understanding of the OSI model. Hands-on experience with design, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of network environments (routers, firewalls, switching, wireless).
- Server/Virtualization: Proficient understanding of setting up or overseeing physical or virtual servers, with a preference for Hyper Converged Solutions or VMware VSAN.
- Preferred Industrial Knowledge:
- Understanding and experience with NERC CIP standards (a huge plus).
- Experience working in the electric utility or industrial network environments with exposure to SCADA devices or protective relays.
- Basic understanding of industrial communication protocols (DNP/Modbus/IEC61850) and physical mediums (RS232, fiber, etc.).
- Tools Exposure (Preferred): Experience with Wireshark, Linux, Cisco CLI, VMware, Visio, PuTTY, SolarWinds.
