Senior Database Architect – Product Development (Remote)
Jenzabar is seeking a Senior SQL Database Architect to join its Product Development team. This critical role is responsible for the design, effective implementation, and maintenance of database structures for Jenzabar software, including training and mentoring development staff.
This is a Full-time, Remote position. The pay range is $91,000–$108,000/year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus and a full range of benefits.
Role Summary and Database Architecture Mandate
The Senior Database Architect will align database structures with the company’s business requirements, ensuring effective performance and implementation across multiple customer systems (a multi-server environment). The role requires deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server technologies and relational database design concepts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Database Design & Modeling: Collaborate with design and development teams to create database designs, perform database modeling, and effectively communicate schema structures.
- SQL Development: Design, create, and debug SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and views (DML, DDL, DCL commands).
- Performance & Maintenance: Optimize system performance (e.g., through index tuning and disk optimization). Maintain and update databases across multiple versions of Jenzabar software.
- System Administration: Manage replication, backup processes, partitions, storage, and access controls, and oversee user privileges (SQL permissions).
- Troubleshooting: Provide support in troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues within the customer base. Collaborate with the QA team to test and verify database changes for each release cycle.
- Mentorship & Best Practices: Assist in training Development team members in SQL best practices and database management.
- Strategy: Stay informed about new releases of Microsoft SQL Server and evaluate their potential impacts. Design enterprise-wide database solutions aligned with application design goals.
Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in Microsoft SQL Server administration and development, with proven teaching and mentoring abilities.
- Core Experience (Mandatory):
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Expertise in teaching and applying SQL DML, DDL, and DCL commands.
- Proven ability to design and code complex database procedures, triggers, and views.
- Extensive experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server database systems.
- Architecture & Delivery:
- Deep understanding of relational database concepts and the ability to gather and implement design requirements.
- Deep understanding of database delivery concepts and structures, particularly in multi-server environments (deployment across hundreds of customer systems).
- Preferred Skills & Experience (Bonus):
- Experience managing databases in high-availability production environments.
- Familiarity with data import/export processes, data conversions, and application of database patches.
- Experience with PowerBuilder, Microsoft Active Directory, and/or working in an academic or higher education environment (Jenzabar software often targets this sector).
