A leadership opportunity is available for a Director of Infrastructure Connectivity Services at Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA Health), a part of Optum that redefines specialty care across a network of ambulatory surgical centers, physician clinics, and labs. This role is responsible for leading the strategy, architecture, operations, and continuous evolution of all connectivity infrastructure across the enterprise.

This is a full-time position in the United States. The salary range is $145,000.00/Yr. – $160,000.00/Yr., plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Role Summary and Hybrid/Multi-Cloud Network Mandate

This Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the company’s network, with an emphasis on hybrid and multi-cloud networking strategies, particularly within Microsoft Azure and AWS. The role involves managing a team of engineers and administrators and partnering with security, cloud, and application teams to ensure secure, resilient, and high-performance infrastructure, especially for complex workloads including AI/ML.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic and operational leadership across all enterprise connectivity domains—cloud networking, LAN/WAN, remote access, wireless, and telecommunications.
  • Hybrid Cloud Architecture: Design and operate hybrid cloud connectivity solutions, especially between on-premises data centers and Microsoft Azure (e.g., ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN).
  • Cloud-Native Design: Develop cloud-native network topologies for resilient and scalable application delivery across Azure (and optionally AWS), including traffic flow, NSGs, ASGs, and UDRs.
  • AI/ML Network Optimization: Design and support AI-focused network architectures, optimizing for high-bandwidth and low-latency scenarios such as GPU workloads, inference services, and large dataset transfers.
  • Security & Compliance: Lead secure network segmentation strategies supporting regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PCI) and workload isolation across hybrid environments.
  • Automation & DevOps: Lead automation initiatives using infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, ARM, Bicep), SDN, and DevOps practices for network deployment.
  • Operations Excellence: Oversee enterprise routing, switching, firewalling, and performance tuning. Drive operations excellence through monitoring, alerting, and remediation platforms.
  • People Management: Mentor and develop high-performing engineering teams with cross-functional cloud networking skillsets. Manage vendor, carrier, and partner engagements.

Required Experience and Technical Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced infrastructure leader with deep, progressive experience in enterprise networking, advanced expertise in Azure cloud networking, and a background in complex, regulated environments like healthcare.

  • Experience (Required):
    • 12+ years of progressive infrastructure experience with at least 7 years leading enterprise network or cloud connectivity teams.
    • Demonstrated experience supporting hybrid application environments requiring seamless cloud/on-premise integration.
    • Experience with enterprise WAN design (e.g., SD-WAN), inter-site routing, and global load balancing.
  • Cloud Expertise: Advanced expertise in Azure cloud networking (e.g., vNet architecture, ExpressRoute, Private Link, Azure Firewall).
  • Strategic & Technical Skills: Strong leadership in network operations, automation, performance optimization, and cross-platform troubleshooting. Excellent communication and strategic planning skills.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with AI/ML network architecture requirements and performance considerations.
  • Domain Preference: Experience in healthcare or regulated environments is strongly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700)
  • Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Fortinet NSE, or equivalent enterprise network certifications.
  • AWS Advanced Networking or Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer (optional).
