DevOps/QA Engineer
An opportunity has emerged in our network for a skilled and motivated DevOps/QA Engineer to support the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This full-time role combines expertise in DevOps automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and Quality Assurance (QA) testing to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant systems for NICHD’s hybrid environments (on-prem and Azure cloud).
This is a remote position with occasional onsite visits required, necessitates a Public Trust clearance, and offers a salary range of $130,000–$145,000/year.
Key Responsibilities and Dual Focus
This role requires balancing DevOps automation and infrastructure modernization with robust QA and federal security compliance.
- DevOps & CI/CD: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins. Support the automation of deployments for both cloud and on-premises environments.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and manage IaC using tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, or PowerShell DSC. Assist with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes (AKS preferred).
- Security & Compliance (FISMA/NIST): Implement security controls and ensure compliance with FISMA/NIST 800-53 policies. Work closely with security teams on patching, vulnerability scans, and ATO documentation (SA&A, POA&M).
- QA & Test Automation: Develop and execute automated and manual test scripts to validate application functionality, performance, and security. Integrate automated testing into the CI/CD pipelines using tools like Selenium, Postman, or JMeter.
- Monitoring & Reliability: Monitor infrastructure health and performance using tools such as Splunk, SQL Profiler, or Oracle OEM. Track and report bugs using JIRA or Azure DevOps Boards.
Required Experience and Technical Skills
The ideal candidate possesses a minimum of 3 years of hybrid cloud experience in both automation and quality control, with specific knowledge of federal compliance standards.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in a DevOps, QA, or systems engineering role supporting hybrid cloud environments.
- CI/CD & Testing: Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) and hands-on experience with test automation tools (Selenium, Postman, JMeter).
- Cloud & Containers: Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Compliance: Knowledge of FISMA/NIST 800-53, security best practices, and federal compliance processes is essential.
- Monitoring: Understanding of infrastructure monitoring tools (Splunk, SQL Profiler, Oracle OEM).
Nice to Haves include Azure certifications (e.g., Azure DevOps Engineer Associate), experience supporting federal agencies (NIH/HHS), and experience writing documentation for ATO packages.
