Regional Deployment Manager (Remote, US with 50% Travel)
An opportunity has come through our network for a Regional Deployment Manager at SAIC, a premier Fortune 500® mission integrator dedicated to leveraging technology and innovation to serve and protect our world. SAIC’s robust portfolio spans the defense, space, civilian, and intelligence markets, providing secure, high-end solutions in mission IT, enterprise IT, engineering, and professional services. This role is a vital part of the Land Border Integration team, a program that supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by installing critical IT infrastructure along the nation’s northern and southern borders to support Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
This is a fast-paced, challenging, and highly rewarding position that requires an experienced, energetic, and motivated individual. As a Deployment Manager, you will be responsible for a wide range of hands-on technical and managerial duties. This position is unique in that it is based remotely, but requires a significant amount of travel—at least 50% of your time—to various ports of entry and border patrol locations. It is highly preferred that the successful candidate reside within one hour of a major international airport in the Detroit area to facilitate this travel. Your work will directly contribute to securing our nation’s borders, making it a role with a tangible impact on national security.
Core Responsibilities and Daily Operations
Your primary responsibilities will include managing and performing equipment installations at Land Ports of Entry, Airports, and Border Patrol locations. This is a hands-on role where you will be directly involved in the physical deployment of IT infrastructure. A key part of your job will be to manage and oversee electrical contractors who support inside/outside plant site modifications, ensuring that their work aligns with project goals and technical specifications.
You will be responsible for meticulously tracking and documenting the progression of your work, providing a clear record of all activities. Troubleshooting will be a regular part of your day, requiring you to identify problems and create resolutions to solve difficult technical challenges. You will need to maintain a high degree of technical understanding of all deployed solutions, acting as the subject matter expert in the field. Adherence to all IT Security, physical security, and operational security policies is non-negotiable.
This role requires the ability to work in a field environment, in all types of weather, and often without on-site supervision. You must be a self-starter and a problem-solver who can navigate challenging situations independently. When not on deployments, you may be called upon to provide surge support for non-deployment break/fix work, which will encompass five local Detroit Ports of Entry. A crucial, non-technical aspect of your role will be building trust and strong relationships with Customs and Border Protection officers and Border Patrol Agents at your work locations, as they are your partners in mission success.
Key Qualifications and Technical Requirements
SAIC is looking for a candidate who is a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a CBP Public Trust clearance. You must be currently residing in the Detroit area to fulfill the travel and local support requirements. The role requires a strong background in IT and project management, with a typical education of a Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience or a Master’s degree with three years of experience.
Required Qualifications include:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Deployment Manager or a similar role.
- Technical Proficiency: A solid understanding of basic construction techniques, particularly involving inside/outside plant cabling. You must be able to read construction documents and understand basic low-voltage electrical wiring principles.
- Cabling Expertise: You must be technically proficient with signal cabling such as CAT 6 and coaxial, including the ability to test and terminate these cables. Proficiency with Single-mode and Multi-mode Fiber cabling, including testing, termination, and splicing, is also a necessity.
- Equipment Experience: Experience with LED video displays and digital billboards is required.
- Management: Proven management experience with subcontractors is essential.
- Soft Skills: Great interpersonal and communication skills, strong time-management abilities, and a proven ability to use mobile tools and applications.
Desired Qualifications include:
- Fiber Expertise: A strong understanding of multi-mode fiber installation and troubleshooting is highly desired.
- Security Clearance: An active DHS Public Trust clearance is highly desired and will expedite the onboarding process.
This position offers a target salary range of $80,001 to $120,000, based on experience and other factors. If you are a seasoned IT professional who is technically proficient, a great communicator, and motivated by a mission to protect our nation, this opportunity with SAIC provides a challenging and fulfilling career path.
