A contact in our network has shared an opening for a Senior DevOps Engineer at Inspiren, a leading technology firm in the senior living industry. Inspiren offers a fully integrated and connected ecosystem designed to enhance compassionate care through technology. Founded by a former Green Beret and cardiothoracic nurse, the company’s mission is to bring peace of mind to residents, families, and staff by proving that advanced technology and human-centric care can coexist. Their solutions seamlessly integrate into existing workflows, capturing a wealth of data that, when combined with nurse specialist expertise and powerful analytics, empowers operators to make informed clinical and operational decisions. This leads to increased efficiency, profitability, and, most importantly, better care outcomes for residents.

This is a pivotal role for an experienced DevOps professional who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure. As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be a key player in the design, deployment, and operation of a robust cloud-based infrastructure. Your work will directly impact the speed and quality of product delivery by driving automation, ensuring reliability, and fortifying security across all facets of the engineering lifecycle. You’ll be at the heart of the company’s mission, partnering closely with product, engineering, and clinical teams to accelerate feature delivery, optimize costs, and support continued rapid growth while maintaining 24/7 reliability and observability of all systems.

The core objective of this position is to significantly enhance developer productivity and streamline the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle. This is a critical function that will accelerate engineering velocity, enable faster feedback loops, and build the foundational stability required for scalable, reliable releases. Your expertise will be crucial in building and maintaining an infrastructure that not only supports current needs but is also poised for future innovation. You will be a champion of best practices, a problem-solver, and a strategic partner, ensuring that the technology stack is always aligned with the company’s ambitious growth goals.

Key Responsibilities and Contributions

Infrastructure Management and Scalability

You will be responsible for the long-term health and scalability of the cloud infrastructure. This includes hands-on work with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, SNS, CloudFront, S3, and RDS. Your experience will be crucial in troubleshooting complex issues, optimizing resource usage to control costs, and aligning capacity with the company’s rapid growth. A deep understanding of serverless architectures is essential, as you will be operating in a production environment built on these technologies. You will also be tasked with implementing and maintaining comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.

CI/CD and Release Automation

This role demands a high level of proficiency in CI/CD principles. You will design, implement, and continuously optimize pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment processes across development, staging, and production environments. Your work will involve utilizing tools like CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins. A key aspect of this responsibility is developing and documenting robust rollback procedures and runbooks to manage and recover from failed deployments. You will relentlessly assess and enhance the deployment automation processes to maximize efficiency and reliability, ensuring that new features and updates can be delivered to customers quickly and safely.

Automated Quality and Observability

Maintaining a high standard of quality is paramount. You will implement and enforce a comprehensive automated testing strategy within the CI/CD pipeline. This includes configuring quality gates to ensure code meets minimum test coverage thresholds, integrating static analysis tools to maintain high code quality and security standards, and building dashboards to provide real-time visibility into test failures and pipeline health. Furthermore, you will be responsible for building and operating state-of-the-art monitoring, logging, and alerting systems using tools like CloudWatch or Sentry to detect issues proactively. You will participate in on-call rotations to respond to incidents and will drive post-mortem analyses to ensure continuous improvement and prevent future occurrences.

Security and Compliance

Security and data privacy are non-negotiable in the senior living and healthcare sectors. You will be a guardian of security, enforcing best practices within the cloud infrastructure and educating team members on security protocols and incident response procedures. A critical component of this role is guaranteeing HIPAA compliance and safeguarding customer data through the implementation of robust access controls and strategic security measures. Direct involvement in achieving and maintaining SOC-2 and/or HIPAA compliance would be a significant advantage, demonstrating your commitment to the highest standards of data integrity and protection.

Infrastructure as Code and Documentation

You will possess strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools to manage infrastructure configurations in a consistent, reproducible, and version-controlled manner. This allows for automated provisioning and management of environments. Additionally, you will have hands-on experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet. A passion for creating and improving system and platform documentation is a must, with a focus on keeping it as close to the code as possible. The ability to leverage AI to generate and maintain high-quality documentation is a forward-thinking skill that is highly valued.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You should bring a minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Infrastructure role, with a proven track record of supporting production workloads. Beyond the core technical skills, a familiarity with IoT integrations (specifically AWS IoT Core) and media-streaming frameworks (gStreamer) is highly desirable, given the nature of the company’s products.

Your success in this role will also depend on your personal attributes. The ideal candidate will be humble, kind, and thoughtful when working with others. You’ll leave your ego at the door, embracing a collaborative spirit that is essential for effective teamwork and problem-solving. This position is open to qualified individuals in the U.S. or Canada, with a preference for candidates in the NYC area, though remote work is the standard for this position. The salary for this role is competitive, ranging from $165,000 to $190,000, along with equity, benefits (including medical, dental, and vision), and flexible paid time off.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a mission-driven company that is revolutionizing compassionate care with technology. Your contributions will directly impact the well-being of senior living residents and the teams who care for them. If you are a seasoned DevOps professional with a passion for building reliable, secure, and scalable systems, and you are ready to make a tangible difference, this role is for you.
