AWIPS is a critical national infrastructure platform used by the National Weather Service to process weather data and issue life-saving warnings. The role is heavily focused on the <strong>Risk Management Framework (RMF)<\/strong> and securing the software development lifecycle within an Agile\/SAFe environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b<strong>Location:<\/strong> 100% Remote.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Clearance:<\/strong> Ability to obtain\/maintain a <strong>Public Trust<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Experience Required:<\/strong> 8+ years with a BS; 6+ years with an MS; or 3+ years with a PhD (4 years of experience can sub for a degree).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Focus:<\/strong> Gaining and maintaining <strong>Authorizations to Operate (ATO)<\/strong>, DevSecOps strategy, and continuous monitoring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Frameworks:<\/strong> Strong knowledge of <strong>NIST 800-37 (RMF)<\/strong> and <strong>NIST 800-53<\/strong> security controls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u200bWhat You&#8217;ll Do: Accreditation and Mission Readiness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bYou will work at the intersection of systems engineering and federal compliance, ensuring the AWIPS platform remains resilient against evolving threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b<strong>RMF Implementation:<\/strong> Drive the full <strong>Risk Management Framework (RMF)<\/strong> lifecycle to gain and maintain system ATOs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Agile\/SAFe Backlog:<\/strong> Work with the Cyber Lead to populate the Agile backlog with technical security tasks and DevSecOps strategies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Security Documentation:<\/strong> Develop and maintain critical artifacts including <strong>POA&amp;Ms<\/strong> (Plan of Action and Milestones), <strong>SECONOPS<\/strong> (Security Concepts of Operations), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Defense-in-Depth:<\/strong> Conduct security activities using established TTPs (Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures) to secure the platform as it is built.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Stakeholder Collaboration:<\/strong> Liaise with multiple <strong>Approving Organizations (AO)<\/strong>, software architects, and data scientists to establish enterprise-wide security postures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u200bRequired Technical Qualifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bPeraton is looking for a &#8220;mission capability integrator&#8221; who understands how to bake security into complex, large-scale federal systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b<strong>ATO Lifecycle:<\/strong> Proven experience in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) specifically regarding gaining and maintaining ATOs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Compliance Mastery:<\/strong> Expert knowledge of <strong>NIST<\/strong> processes and the application of security controls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Operational Security:<\/strong> Experience in Security Incident and Event Management (<strong>SIEM<\/strong>) and incident response.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Artifact Management:<\/strong> Hands-on experience creating the technical documentation required for federal audits and authorizations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u200bPreferred Qualifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u200b<strong>Certifications:<\/strong> <strong>Security+<\/strong>, <strong>CISSP<\/strong>, or similar industry-standard credentials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u200b<strong>Active Status:<\/strong> An active\/current Public Trust is a significant advantage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u200bWhy This Role is Unique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bThis isn&#8217;t a typical &#8220;corporate&#8221; security job; you are protecting the system that enables weather forecasters to protect lives and property across the U.S. It requires a blend of <strong>compliance architecture<\/strong> and <strong>DevSecOps mindset<\/strong>.
