Viasat<\/strong>, a global leader in satellite communications, is seeking a DevOps Engineer<\/strong> to join their engineering team. This role is focused on collaborating with software development and network engineering teams to analyze, automate, and deploy software, operating systems, and security updates to a large-scale, mission-critical satellite communications system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a Full-time, Regular<\/strong> position located in Carlsbad, California<\/strong>, that requires U.S. Citizenship<\/strong> due to its work on government projects. The general salary range is $111,500 – $176,500 annually<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role Summary and Automation Mandate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You will be responsible for software bug and security vulnerability life-cycle tracking, system configuration management, and deployment automation. The core mandate is the development and maintenance of automated software test, build, and deployment processes, focusing on CI\/CD into both lab and cloud environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • IaC & Orchestration:<\/strong> Building, deploying, and testing Helm Charts, ArgoCD applications, and\/or Terraform<\/strong> configuration files.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Automation Development:<\/strong> Development of procedures, scripts, and playbooks to automate the update of company software and COTS application packages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Linux Systems:<\/strong> Deploying automation for Linux operating system updates and patches<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Containerization:<\/strong> Building software packages and deploying\/testing them in containerized environments<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Cloud Infrastructure:<\/strong> Deployment and Maintenance of AWS Infrastructure<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • CI\/CD Maintenance:<\/strong> Development and maintenance of automated software test, build, and deployment processes, including Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI\/CD).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
    \n\n\n\n

    Required Experience and Technical Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in systems engineering and scripting, coupled with mandatory experience in automation, Linux administration, and fundamental networking concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Experience (Mandatory):<\/strong>\n
        \n
      • 3+ years<\/strong> of work experience in systems engineering, software engineering, or development operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • 3+ years<\/strong> of work experience using, testing, and developing high-level scripts, preferably with Python and\/or Bash<\/strong> languages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience working with deployment automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Technical Knowledge:<\/strong>\n
          \n
        • Good working knowledge of Linux operating systems<\/strong> and being able to administer Unix\/Linux servers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Good working knowledge of software build processes and automation principles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Familiarity with software development tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory<\/strong>, Make, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Working knowledge of the TCP\/IP protocol and networking stack<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Education:<\/strong> Bachelor\u2019s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Helpful Experience (Preferred):<\/strong>\n
            \n
          • 3+ years<\/strong> working with CI\/CD tools such as Ansible, GitHub, Jenkins, Artifactory, and ArgoCD<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Work experience with containerization technologies<\/strong> such as Docker, Kubernetes, and\/or OpenShift<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Some experience with virtualization technologies (ESXI, OpenStack) or SQL database systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
