AIS (Applied Information Sciences)<\/strong>, an employee-owned company focused on federal defense and intelligence missions, is seeking a Cloud Engineer<\/strong>. This individual will be a key member of a cross-functional team, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-based solutions specifically aligned with Zero Trust, DevSecOps, and DoD Cloud Smart principles.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is an Onsite, full-time<\/strong> position, and candidates must be based in the DC Metro area<\/strong> (Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, or Maryland).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role Summary and Defense Technology Mandate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This role is central to modernizing DoD environments and delivering secure, cost-effective digital engineering platforms for the warfighter. The engineer will leverage deep technical expertise to deploy, integrate, and optimize mission systems across secure federal cloud environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Responsibilities:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Cloud Architecture & Design:<\/strong> Develop and document cloud reference architectures aligned to DoD and federal strategies. Design resilient solutions (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS<\/strong>) across environments including Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, DoD IL5\/6, and JWCC.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Containerization:<\/strong> Leverage containerization and orchestration<\/strong> technologies (Kubernetes, AKS, EKS, OpenShift<\/strong>) for secure, portable deployments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Engineering & Automation:<\/strong> Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC)<\/strong> solutions using Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation<\/strong>. Implement CI\/CD pipelines<\/strong> (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for automated testing and deployment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • AI\/ML Integration:<\/strong> Integrate AI\/ML and data platform services<\/strong> into cloud architectures to enable advanced analytics and digital engineering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Security & Compliance:<\/strong> Apply DoD Zero Trust principles and STIG compliance<\/strong> to cloud workloads. Ensure compliance with FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and DISA SRG<\/strong> controls, supporting Authority to Operate (ATO)<\/strong> processes through RMF documentation<\/strong> and validation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Operations:<\/strong> Monitor and optimize cloud performance, cost, and availability. Troubleshoot complex issues across networking, compute, storage, and security domains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Required Experience and Technical Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The successful candidate will be a mission-driven cloud professional with a foundation in engineering, significant experience with IaC, and the necessary DoD clearance and security certifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Experience (Required):<\/strong> 3\u20137 years in cloud engineering, architecture, or DevSecOps roles.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Clearance:<\/strong> Active DoD Secret clearance (minimum)<\/strong>, with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret\/SCI if required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Certifications:<\/strong> CompTia Security+ certification required.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Cloud Expertise:<\/strong> Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud<\/strong>; familiarity with federal cloud environments is preferred.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC):<\/strong> Proficiency in tools such as Terraform, Bicep, and CloudFormation.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Technical Knowledge:<\/strong> Deep understanding of DoD security frameworks, including RMF, DISA SRGs, and Zero Trust principles<\/strong>. Strong foundation in networking, security, identity, and access management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Education:<\/strong> Bachelor\u2019s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Desired Qualifications (Bonus Points):<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104<\/strong>) or Azure\/AWS Solutions Architect certifications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience supporting DoD digital engineering initiatives (e.g., Model-Based Systems Engineering).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience with data platforms and analytics services<\/strong> (Databricks, Synapse, Redshift).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Familiarity with container security and automated compliance frameworks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
