The College Board<\/strong> is seeking a Senior Director, Government Relations,<\/strong> to lead the organization’s legislative efforts related to data privacy and technology<\/strong> at the state and federal levels. This is a full-time, fully remote<\/strong> position in the United States, within the Global Policy and External Relations (GPER) team. The hiring range for this role is $112,000\u2013$170,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role Summary and Legislative Strategy Mandate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This Senior Director will serve as a registered lobbyist<\/strong> and leader of legislative strategy, actively shaping policy outcomes and building high-impact relationships with policymakers across all states and in Congress. The mission is to safeguard and advance the College Board’s leadership on emerging technologies, particularly data privacy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Responsibilities:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

  • Lead GR Legislative Strategy on Privacy (50%):<\/strong> Drive and execute a bold, proactive state and federal agenda<\/strong> to safeguard the College Board’s leadership on data privacy, artificial intelligence (AI)<\/strong>, educational technology, and protections for minors online.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Relationship & Representation:<\/strong> Forge high-impact relationships with legislative leaders, committee staff, gubernatorial staff, and advocacy partners, positioning College Board as a trusted voice. Serve as a compelling and credible representative<\/strong> in legislative forums, translating complex technical issues into persuasive narratives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Proactive Threat Management:<\/strong> Proactively surface and escalate legislative threats regarding privacy and AI, ensuring the organization influences outcomes early. Direct and coordinate contract lobbyists<\/strong> to neutralize threats and advance the College Board’s position.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Design Proactive Campaigns (30%):<\/strong> Seize opportunities to set the national agenda<\/strong> by developing model legislative language and securing bill sponsors. Drive state-level campaigns from concept to passage, utilizing grassroots and grasstops support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Expand Coalition Engagement (20%):<\/strong> Forge powerful alliances with attorneys general, policy groups, and policymaker organizations (e.g., TechNet, NGA, ALEC) to amplify the College Board\u2019s voice and shape model policies on technology and student data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Internal Alignment:<\/strong> Partner closely with Legal and Policy teams<\/strong> to align strategic messaging, reinforce defensibility, and operationalize a credible and compliant parental consent model for minors\u2019 data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Required Experience and Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The successful candidate is a seasoned government relations professional with a track record of securing legislative wins, strong political judgment, and deep subject-matter expertise in the intersection of privacy, technology, and public policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • 7-10 years of experience in government relations, legislative affairs, or public advocacy<\/strong>, with a focus on privacy and technology.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • A proven track record as a registered lobbyist<\/strong> of securing legislative wins and navigating complex political environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Expertise in legislative drafting, lobbying, and political strategy<\/strong>, including direct engagement with elected officials and staff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Demonstrated success in creating and leading advocacy campaigns<\/strong> to build support for legislative priorities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Subject Matter Expertise:<\/strong> Strong understanding of student data privacy and AI issues<\/strong>, state legislative processes, and regulatory policy frameworks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
