An opportunity is available for a Site Reliability \/ GitOps Engineer<\/strong> to join the Information Systems (IS) team at Canonical<\/strong>, the leading provider of Ubuntu and open-source software to global enterprise and technology markets. This role is a unique opportunity for an “automation-first” technologist to manage and evolve the core IT production services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a full-time, remote<\/strong> position, available globally in any timezone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role Summary and Automation Leadership Mandate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This SRE & GitOps Engineer will drive operations automation to the next level across Canonical’s private and public clouds. The role combines deep hands-on expertise with infrastructure as code (IaC) and software development practices to ensure the reliability and scalability of Canonical\u2019s services and products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Site Reliability \/ GitOps Engineer, you will:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • IaC & Automation:<\/strong> Apply your experience of IaC to develop infrastructure as code practice within IS by constantly increasing automation and improving IaC processes<\/strong>. Automate software operations for re-usability and consistency across private and public clouds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Resilience & Development:<\/strong> Develop new features and improve the resilience and scalability<\/strong> of the existing cloud and container portfolio. You’ll be given uninterrupted development time<\/strong> to focus on large-scale projects and automation of manual tasks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Operational Responsibility:<\/strong> Maintain operational responsibility<\/strong> for all of Canonical\u2019s core services, networks, and infrastructure. Carry final responsibility for time-critical escalations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Observability & Troubleshooting:<\/strong> Develop skills in troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation. Set up, maintain, and use observability tools<\/strong> such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Collaboration & Improvement:<\/strong> Collaborate with development teams to design service architecture, documentation, playbooks, and operational procedures. You will also improve Canonical products and the open-source technologies<\/strong> by providing critical feedback (submitting bugs and sometimes pull requests).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • GitOps Practice:<\/strong> Utilize version control, peer review, and CI\/CD<\/strong> to roll out changes to both applications and infrastructure, defining operations entirely in code<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Required Experience and Technical Qualifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The ideal candidate is a Linux and automation expert with a strong modern engineering background, capable of operating distributed systems and solving complex, full-stack problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • IaC & GitOps Expertise:<\/strong> A deep experience of, and knowledge to define operations in code<\/strong>, using version control, peer review, and CI\/CD<\/strong> to roll out changes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Engineering Background:<\/strong> Strong modern engineering background<\/strong> (peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI\/CD, Agile).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Programming:<\/strong> Python software development experience<\/strong>, particularly with large projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Linux & Networking:<\/strong> Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls<\/strong>. Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Systems Knowledge:<\/strong> Affinity with various forms of Linux storage<\/strong> (from Ceph to Databases). Proficiency with cloud computing concepts and technologies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Education:<\/strong> Bachelor’s degree or greater, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Attributes:<\/strong> Motivated and able to troubleshoot from kernel to web<\/strong>. Passionate and familiar with open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
