An opportunity is available for a Principal Services Engineer<\/strong> at teamLFG<\/strong>, a studio focused on creating a new franchise at PlayStation<\/strong> centered on deep social games. This senior engineering role will drive the development, architecture, and scaling of the backend services for a new live-service game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a full-time, remote<\/strong> position in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Role Summary and Live-Service Architecture Mandate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Principal Services Engineer is a technical leader responsible for the entire lifecycle of the game’s backend services, from initial requirements and architecture to production implementation and on-call support. The role requires expertise in building high-scale distributed systems and strong cross-disciplinary communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Responsibilities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • Service Development:<\/strong> Build and maintain production-quality backend game services<\/strong> from prototype to production.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Architecture & Design:<\/strong> Design a comprehensive, pragmatic services architecture<\/strong> covering all aspects of a live-services game, including sessions, matchmaking, player data, and service partitioning.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Collaboration & Communication:<\/strong> Collaborate daily with a cross-disciplinary team<\/strong> to design service features. Write clear, concise technical documentation and effectively summarize complex topics to achieve alignment across multiple teams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Production Operations:<\/strong> Calmly deal with production incidents<\/strong> and participate in an on-call rotation<\/strong> after the game launches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • System Diagnosis:<\/strong> Ability to diagnose complex system failures<\/strong> using logging and metrics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Required Experience and Technical Qualifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The ideal candidate is an expert in distributed systems, proficient in the Rust programming language, and skilled at navigating the complexities of high-scale, live-service environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Systems Expertise:<\/strong> Production experience with distributed systems<\/strong> (or other non-deterministic software architectures) in a high-scale, high-latency environment.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Programming (Required):<\/strong> Ability to write, debug, and maintain code in Rust<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Communication:<\/strong> Ability to communicate with customers<\/strong> (internal and external) of different technical and non-technical backgrounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Technical Troubleshooting:<\/strong> Ability to diagnose complex system failures using logging and metrics<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Culture:<\/strong> Embrace a “we” culture, demonstrating outstanding collaboration and communication skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Nice-to-Have Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      • Experience with “games as a service” online game development<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
