An opportunity has emerged in our network for a Director of Research and AI Technology<\/strong> at Georgetown University<\/strong>. This critical leadership position is responsible for blending the university’s research IT needs with enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy<\/strong>, driving the strategic adoption, development, and compliance of technology across diverse research fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a full-time, remote<\/strong> position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Responsibilities and Dual Mandate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This Director role is highly strategic and operational, focusing both on cutting-edge AI technology and the complex IT needs of the university’s scientific research community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • AI Strategy & Deployment:<\/strong> Lead AI initiatives<\/strong> across the university, including defining the strategy for and deploying solutions such as enterprise chatbots and agents<\/strong>. Run stakeholder workshops to translate business needs into technical AI requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Research IT Management:<\/strong> Manage the IT requirements for new and existing research projects across fields like genomics, bioinformatics, chemistry, and physics<\/strong>. Lead a team of Research IT “Expert Resources.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Compliance & Data Security:<\/strong> Serve as a key partner to the research community by assisting with Data Use Agreements (DUAs)<\/strong> and ensuring all data security, handling, and processing methods comply with sponsor and legal requirements<\/strong> (working closely with the Office of General Counsel).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • System Oversight:<\/strong> Manage and support a suite of critical research administration systems<\/strong> (e.g., GU-Medstar Institutional Review Board (IRB), Cayuse, GUPASS), coordinating upgrades, testing, and strategic enhancements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Availability:<\/strong> Ensure the security, availability, recoverability, and optimum performance<\/strong> of all research databases and platforms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Required Experience and Qualifications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The ideal candidate possesses a deep blend of experience in technical support for scientific research, project management, and the implementation of modern AI solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Experience in Technology & Management:<\/strong> 7+ years\u2019 work experience in managing technology<\/strong> (e.g., Oracle, Salesforce, relational database systems, network infrastructure).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • AI Implementation:<\/strong> Minimum of 1 year designing or implementing generative or modern AI solutions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Research IT Support:<\/strong> Minimum of 5 years providing technical support and project management to researchers<\/strong> in higher education or a related scientific industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Consulting Background (Preferred):<\/strong> 5+ years of experience working in IT management consulting.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Core Technical Skills:<\/strong>\n
        \n
      • Must understand how to protect the security and integrity of databases and applications<\/strong> on the system and through the network.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience with declarative development on tools such as Salesforce, Mendix, or Workday<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience gathering business requirements, creating and maintaining process maps, and mobilizing developers\/business stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
